CAPABLE is a research program led by Karmanos Cancer Institute whose purpose is exploring how exercise improves quality of life for cancer survivors.
At the beginning and end of the 12 weeks, researchers have the participants engage in functional testing to measure strength, cardiovascular fitness and body composition.
The goal of this study is to change how the medical world views and uses physical activity as part of a preventative protocol for improving health markers and overall quality of life, which could eventually lead to corporations and insurance companies offering financial assistance/incentives to individuals for engaging in regular physical activity.
At the individual level, this program has been life changing for the individuals who have participated. The program is paid for by Karmanos (and administered by your coaches at Five Lakes), so participants are not constrained by cost. The mental, physical and emotional transformations we have witnessed as a result of this program are priceless.
