About Bruce McLaughlan



Competitive sports have been central to my life, from Little League through high school, collegiate Rugby, motorcycle racing, action shooting, tactical fitness and pretty much every recreational activity within reason, and some that weren't. Along the way, I have dealt with injuries, setbacks and multiple missteps, but one of the driving forces has always been education, learning from the best, and testing my knowledge under pressure.


These passions certainly inform my approach to CrossFit, where I remain a competitive athlete, seeking opportunities in the growing Masters community to test myself at the highest levels, all over the world. Masters competition requires a deep understanding not simply of performance, but of nutrition, training load, strategy and in particular recovery. 

I was blessed to have personalized instruction in extreme performance under stress from some of the most innovative and accomplished coaches in the world, and I draw on these lessons as I continue my CrossFit journey. 


I started coaching CrossFit as an L1 in 2014, and continue now as an L2, with my eye on further education and new opportunities. Our community at Five Lakes CrossFit brings out the best in me, and challenges me to draw on a lifetime of experiences to help each athlete to excel at every class. For those interested in competition, I invite you to pick my brain. For all of us, the priority is to continue to improve our quality of life and enjoy the journey.
